Community Service

Community service is one of the best ways to measure a person's success. Community service means that you can help people in your free time, and I feel helping others is the best way to spend your time. Service doesn't have to be hard, it can be really simple. It just takes a small step, and then big things will come from it.

FBLA-Pima Community Extravaganza

The Pima Community Extravaganza is an event where FBLA partners with the Pima Public Library. We have musical performances and readers, then we have a movie at the end of the night. Throughout the whole day, we encourage people to tour the library or check out books. Any money made from concessions at the end of the night goes toward the library, and they need all the funding they can get. They also take book and DVD donations to expand their log.

FBLA-Boy Scout Field Day

This year, the Boy Scout's of America put on a field day for all of the packs in our area. At this field day, we had our students keep track of times, run the registration, take pictures, and make sure that generally everything was running smoothly. We worked for about six hours, and the people in charge appreciated it because they were short on staff.

Cheer-Special Needs School

Our area has a special needs school called Dan Hinton, whose purpose is to help children with special needs get an education that they can use. They also help these students get jobs in the community and learn basic life skills. For spiritline, we went to this school for a day and helped the students complete crafts, plant vegetables, and take a field trip to the bank to deposit any money they had earned. It was a great day.

FBLA-Relay for Life

Every year, the Graham County has a Relay for Life walk, where groups come and walk around the track to help raise funds for research in cancer. FBLA participated by having our students each pay some money so we could raise $500. Then, we had at least one FBLA member at all times during the night walking the track that was set up. This raised a lot of money for cancer research, and I was so glad I was a part of it.
